Review

Take a whiff and vibrant red fruit and raspberry dance right out - classic cab notes in an easy, fruity style. There's a touch of warmth from the oak aging but this sniff promises an easygoing palate.

Sipping it, you get more of those slightly sour red currants and cherries, medium weight and no rough edges. Franciscan's Cab plays it down the middle - decent body without weigh-down tannins, good acidity to keep it nimble. Oak makes a cameo but is mostly a team player. Do flavors evolve in glass? Not dramatically. But for under $20 that letdown gets a pass. This bottle is about the constant crowd-pleasing red berry satisfaction from start to finish.

All said, a super drinkable backyard sipper at a reasonable cost. Franciscan provides a trusty CA cab experience here without trying to overplay its hand. Constancy has its charms too.

Overall

We award a respectable 3.5 out of 5 grapes - room for overachievers to shine brighter, but delivers exactly as intended. Serve slightly chilled; this youthful red's exuberant side deserves a toast regardless!

In summary, while it reinvents nothing, Franciscan presents familiar flavors in balanced, drink-me-now form. Undemanding yet comforting. The cab lover on a budget finds a ready companion. Would we buy again? Yes.
