Josh - Hearth Cabernet 2020: Overrated?
Josh is known for their Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. This made the Josh Hearth 2020 Cab particularly exciting to try, as their single vineyard bottlings are usually of high quality - were we disappoited?

Review
On the nose, the Josh Hearth 2020 Cab had subtle hints of caramel and sweet red fruit aromas. However, upon tasting it lacked complexity. The fruit flavors were quite thin and shallow, coming across as cheap. There was a lack of depth and structure to the wine. Tannins were also light and not well-integrated.
For the price ($12-14), there are far better options available.
Overall, this wine was a disappointment considering Josh Winery's strong reputation. At best, it had slight aromatics but fell short in flavor delivery. It lacked the balance, concentration and finish we have come to expect from good Napa Valley Cabernet. For the price ($12-14), there are far better options available. The Josh Hearth 2020 Cab earned only 2.5 out of 5 stars - hopefully future vintages from this property will show more of what the site is capable of. 2.5/5 grapes.
